Thoughtful Editing for High-Stakes Fiction

I work with authors writing high-stakes fiction—stories where emotion, tension and consequences matter—across the romance, crime and thriller genres.

My role as a fiction editor is to help you shape a manuscript that feels clear, consistent and confident, while staying true to your voice and intentions as a writer. Whether you’re publishing independently or working towards securing an agent, my focus is always the same: to help you put your book into the world knowing it’s the strongest version it can be.

I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all editing or rigid rule enforcement. I believe in thoughtful, intentional editorial decisions that serve your story, your reader, and your goals as an author.

My Editing Ethos

When I edit fiction, I work to a clear hierarchy:

  • Clarity comes first;
  • Consistency comes second;
  • Correctness comes third.

Fiction doesn’t need to follow every traditional grammar rule to be effective. Sometimes rhythm matters more than commas, and sometimes voice matters more than convention.

My job is to understand why you’ve made the choices you have, and to help refine them so your story reads smoothly and confidently for your readers.

That means:

  • Prioritising readability and flow.
  • Ensuring internal consistency across your manuscript or series.
  • Correcting errors without flattening your voice or style.

Every change I make is intentional and I’m always editing in service of the story you’re trying to tell—not an abstract set of rules. This editing philosophy shapes not just how I edit, but how I coach authors too.

What It's Like to Work With Me

Editing is a collaborative process, and I will work alongside you as a professional partner who is invested in helping you make confident, informed decisions about your manuscript. I know how much time, energy and hope goes into writing a book, and I take that responsibility seriously.

When you work with me, you can expect:

  • Clear scope and defined boundaries;
  • Honest, clear feedback you can actually use;
  • Respect for your time, deadlines, and goals;
  • An approach that balances writing craft, market awareness, and reader experience.

My aim is not just to improve one manuscript, but to help you through the editing process in a  way that will make you feel more confident and informed as a writer going forward.

Many of my clients return for multiple projects, series work, or ongoing support—something I value greatly and design my services to support.

My Background & Experience

I’ve been working as a professional editor since 2020, supporting authors writing romance, crime and thriller fiction at a range of stages, from early drafts through to publication-ready manuscripts.

My background is rooted in both language and communication. I hold a degree in Journalism which trained me to write and edit with clarity, precision, and a strong sense of audience. Alongside this, I have completed a range of professional editing courses through the Chartered Institute of Editing & Proofreading (CIEP) and the Publishing Training Centre, as well as specialist training through providers such as Club Ed and Liminal Pages. These have strengthened my technical editing skills and deepened my understanding of fiction craft, genre expectations, and editorial best practice.

I’m committed to ongoing professional development, and I regularly update my skills to stay aligned with industry standards, publishing trends, and the evolving expectations of romance, crime and thriller readers. This commitment allows me to offer editing that’s not only technically sound, but also relevant, informed, and grounded int he realities of today’s publishing landscape.

Alongside editing, I’m a keen reader of high-stakes fiction. I’m drawn to stories where the tension, emotional investment and payoff really matter. As both a reader and an editor, I’m interested in what makes stories land: how pacing builds momentum, how character choices create consequences, and how clarity on the page allows the emotional heart of the story to come through without distraction.

Who I'm the Right Editor For

I work best with authors who:

  • Want professional, thoughtful editorial input;
  • Are open to collaboration and revision;
  • Value clarity, consistency, and honest feedback.

You don’t need to have everything figured out, but you do need to be willing to engage with the editing process and make considered decisions about your work.

If you’re looking for an editor you can trust as a long-term partner—someone who understands your genre, respects your voice, and offers clear guidance—we’ll likely work well together.
