Book Coaching & Strategy Calls
Tailored support for story challenges, revision decisions, and planning your next steps.
Coaching and strategy calls offer focused, one-to-one support for authors who want practical guidance.
These sessions are designed to help you think things through, make confident decisions, and move forward with purpose—whether that’s with your story, your future writing goals, or your author business plans. They’re structured, professional conversations, not vague encouragement or generic advice, and are tailored to your specific goals and stage of the writing process.
What these calls are:
These calls are:
- Focused, structured conversations;
- Tailored to your specific questions and goals;
- Grounded in craft, clarity, and practical decision-making.
And What They Aren't:
They aren’t:
- Live editing or manuscript reviews;
- A replacement for developmental or line-level editing.
If your needs would be better met through an editing service, I’ll be honest about that and help you choose the right option.
Book Coaching: Story-Focused Support
Coaching calls focus on writing craft, story challenges, and creative problem-solving. They’re designed to help you work through specific writing challenges, or develop your skills and confidence as a writer.
These sessions can be booked as a one-off call or as part of a short coaching package built around a particular goal.
Coaching calls can help with:
- Refining a story idea before you begin drafting;
- Identifying plot holes, logic gaps, or character issues;
- Talking through story structure, pacing, and stakes;
- Planning or troubleshooting a series;
- Creating or developing a story bible;
- Working through the key elements of a developmental edit and learning how to apply them to your own writing.
Coaching calls are collaborative and discussion-based. I’ll ask questions, offer professional insight, and help you explore options—but the creative decisions always remain yours.
One-off Coaching Calls
Focused support for specific story questions or challenges.
One-off coaching calls are designed for authors who need targeted support around a specific issue.
These sessions offer a space to talk through a particular question, challenge or decision—whether it’s a plot problem you can’t untangle, uncertainty about a series, or figuring out where to focus next.
What these calls can help with
One-off coaching calls are well suited to:
- Talking through a specific plot hole or story problem;
- Clarifying character motivation or stakes;
- Planning a series or story bible;
- Deciding how to approach a revision;
- Making sense of feedback you’ve already received.
What you'll receive
With a one-to-one coaching call, you’ll receive:
- A 60-minute one-to-one video call;
- Focused discussion tailored to your question;
- Practical guidance and next steps you can apply immediately.
These sessions are discussion-based and don’t involve manuscript review or live editing.
Timescales and booking
One-off coaching calls can often be booked at shorter notice than editing services, depending on availability.
If you’re unsure whether a one-off call or a package would be a better fit, I’m happy to help you decide.
Pricing
$120 / £90 per 60-minute session.
Next Steps
If a one-off coaching call feels like the right level of support, the next step is simply to get in touch. If it turns out that a coaching package or a different service would be more helpful, I’ll let you know.
Story Foundations Package
Turn a half-formed idea into a story you’re excited to start writing.
If you’ve been carrying a story idea (or several story ideas) around for a while—thinking about it, worrying at it, wondering whether it’s good enough—you’re not alone.
For many writers, the hardest part isn’t writing the first chapter. It’s knowing where to start, whether the idea will hold together, and whether they’re about to about to spend months working on something that doesn’t quite work.
The Story Foundations Package is designed for authors who feel stuck before they’ve even begun—overwhelmed by possibilities, unsure how to shape their idea, and quietly afraid of getting it wrong.
Rather than pushing you to “just start writing”, this package gives you space to slow down, plan things through, and build a story you genuinely want to commit to.
Who this package is for
This package is a good fit for you if you:
- Have always wanted to write a novel, but don’t know where to begin;
- Feel overwhelmed with your idea rather than excited by it;
- Are worried about plot holes, logic gaps, or losing your way partway through;
- Have started before and lost momentum;
- Want guidance without judgement or pressure.
This package is particularly helpful for first-time crime and thriller writers, where structure and logic can feel daunting, and for romance writers planning their first novel or series.
Once we’ve untangled your idea and quietened the noise, we can start shaping it into something solid—a story you understand, trust, and feel ready to write.
What's included
The Story Foundations Package includes three 60-minute one-to-one coaching calls, usually delivered over 4-6 weeks, with space between sessions for ideas to settle and evolve.
Rather than a rigid framework, each call builds on the last, giving you time to think, explore options, and gain confidence in the direction your story is taking.
Session 1: Untangling Your Idea
In our first call, we’ll take the pressure off and start by talking through your idea as it exists right now—messy, half-formed, or over-complicated is absolutely fine.
Together we’ll:
- Explore what drew you to this story in the first place;
- Clarify the core of the idea beneath the noise;
- Identify what excites you, and what’s currently blocking you;
- Gently shape the idea into something that feels more manageable.
There’s no expectation that you arrive with a polished pitch or a perfect plan, so don’t worry!
Session 2: Shaping the Story
Once your idea feels clearer, we’ll start looking at how it might work as a story.
This session focuses on:
- Plot direction and narrative momentum;
- Character motivation and choices;
- Stakes, tension, and cause-and-effect;
- Early identification of potential plot or logic issues.
The aim isn’t to lock everything down and lose your creativity, but to make sure the story has enough shape and strength to carry you through a full draft.
Session 3: Finding Your Way Forward
In our final call, we’ll bring everything together and look ahead.
We’ll:
- Clarify what you need to focus on as you begin writing;
- Talk through how to start your draft without overthinking;
- Identify likely challenges and how to handle them;
- Make sure you leave with a clear sense of direction.
By this point, most writers feel calmer, clearer, and far more ready to start writing. Not because everything is solved, but because they understand their story well enough to trust it as it unfolds on the page.
What this package doesn't include
This package is designed to support you at the thinking and planning stage, before you start writing in earnest.
Because of that, it doesn’t include an in-text editing, manuscript review, or detailed line-by-line feedback. We also won’t be focusing on accountability or word count targets.
That’s not because these things aren’t valuable – it’s simply because these sessions are about helping you understand your story well enough to begin (or continue) writing it, they are not about putting pressure on you to hit a target.
If, at any point, it becomes clear that a different kind of support would serve you better, I’ll be honest about that and help you explore appropriate next steps.
What you'll gain
By the end of the Story Foundations Package, most writers leave with more than just a plan.
You’ll likely gain:
- A clearer sense of what your story is really about
- Relief from the mental noise that’s been keeping you stuck
- Greater trust in your idea and in your instincts as a writer
- An understanding of where your story is heading, even if every detail isn’t fixed
- A calmer, more grounded starting point for drafting
You don’t need to have everything figured out; the aim is just to reach a place where starting feels possible, not overwhelming.
Timescales and booking
The Story Foundations Package is usually delivered over 4-6 weeks, with sessions spaced to allow time for ideas to settle and develop between calls.
Sessions are booked in advance and scheduled at mutually convenient times. When you get in touch, we’ll look at availability together and agree a schedule that feels manageable rather than rushed.
Because this package involves a meaningful investment of time and money, I offer a short, no-obligation call for authors who are considering booking. This gives us both the chance to talk through your goals, make sure the package is the right fit, and answer any initial questions before committing.
Pricing
$300 / £220
The Story Foundations Package is a fixed, structured package, designed to offer focused support at a clearly defined stage of the writing process.
Next Steps
If you’d like to pin down your idea and start your next project with clarity and confidence, the Story Foundations package may be the right fit.
Finished First Draft Package
Support to help you move from idea to finished first draft, one step at a time.
If you’ve always wanted to write a novel but keep getting stuck partway through, you’re not failing, you’re facing one of the most common challenges writers experience.
Many authors struggle not because they lack ideas or talent, but because writing a book can be overwhelming once real life, doubt, and competing priorities get involved. It’s easy to lose momentum, second-guess yourself, or quietly give up without meaning to.
The Finished First Draft Package is designed to support you through the process of drafting a novel, with structure, guidance, and space to talk through challenges as they arise. You don’t have to do it alone.
Who this package is for
This package is a good fit if you:
- Have a story idea you genuinely want to write;
- Have struggled to finish drafts in the past;
- Feel overwhelmed by the scale of writing a novel;
- Want guidance and structure without pressure or judgement;
- Are willing to commit time to writing between sessions.
This package works particularly well for crime and thriller writers, where complexity and momentum can be challenging to sustain, and romance writers who are struggling to get their story out of their head and onto paper.
What's included
The Finished First Draft Package is a six-month one-to-one coaching programme designed to support you from early planning through to a completed first draft, without pressure, perfectionism, or having to do it alone.
You’ll receive 10 hours of personalised coaching, combining a clear structure with flexibility to meet your needs and goals.
This includes:
Four core sessions that anchor the process:
- Story & Goal Clarity Session (60 minutes) where we refine your idea, clarify the kind of book you’re writing, and define what “finished” realistically looks like for you;
- Planning & Pacing Session (60 minutes) where we create a workable writing plan and goals that fit around your life;
- Midpoint Review Session (60 minutes) where we take a step back, reassess what’s working, untangle any issues, and reset your approach if needed;
- Final Roundup Session (60 minutes) where we reflect on what you’ve achieved, consolidate what you’ve learned, and agree actions and next steps.
Six additional hours of flexible coaching support can be scheduled in 30- or 60-minute blocks across the six months. These sessions are there to support you as challenges arise – whether you’re working through a plot problem, struggling with losing momentum, or need help making a decision to move forward. Every session is shaped around what you need at that point in the process.
How this support works
This package is designed to help you keep going, not to perfect the draft as you write it. Our conversations may focus on:
- Talking through story or structural challenges;
- Clarifying decisions when you feel stuck or uncertain;
- Adjusting plans when life gets in the way;
- Helping you regain momentum after pauses or setbacks.
The emphasis is on progress, understanding, and trust in the process, rather than getting everything “right” first time.
What this package doesn't include
This package doesn’t include live editing, manuscript review, or line-by-line feedback.
This is also not a full accountability or productivity programme. The writing itself remains your responsibility, and you will only reach your goal of a finished first draft if you commit to writing between our sessions.
My role is to help you think clearly, make informed decisions, and keep moving forward—not to monitor your word count or push you to write in a particular way.
If you’re looking primarily for editing or for detailed feedback on pages, a different service will be a better fit.
What you'll gain
By the end of the Finished First Draft Package, many writers come away with:
- A completed first draft of their novel;
- A clearer understanding of how they write;
- Greater resilience when challenges arise;
- Increased confidence in handling uncertainty and imperfection;
- A sense of achievement from finishing something substantial.
The draft doesn’t need to be perfect—the goal is just to get it written.
Timescales and booking
This package runs over six months, with sessions spaced to support sustained progress without pressure.
I work with a very limited number of authors at a time for Finished First Draft Packages so I can ensure each one gets my full focus and attention.
Because this package involves a meaningful investment of time and money, I offer a short, no-obligation call for authors who are considering booking. This gives us both the chance to talk through your goal, make sure the package is the right fit, and answer any initial questions before committing.
Pricing
$1,000 / £750
The Finished First Draft Package is a longer-term, relationship-based fixed package and is priced accordingly. Payment plans are available and can be discussed during the initial call.
Next Steps
If finishing your first draft feels like something you’ve always wanted but never quite managed, this package may offer the structure and support you need.
Strategy Calls: Planning, Priorities & Big-Picture Clarity
Strategy calls focus on planning, prioritisation, and direction rather than story craft.
These sessions are ideal if you’re feeling overwhelmed by choices, unsure where to focus your energy, or trying to balance writing with other commitments.
Strategy calls can help with:
- Building a realistic writing or editing plan;
- Planning a revision timeline and setting priorities;
- Mapping out goals for your author business;
- Thinking through longer-term publishing or workload plans.
The aim of a strategy call is to help you step back, gain perspective, and leave with a clear, manageable plan—not a long to do list that you’ll never realistically complete
What you'll receive
With each strategy call, you’ll receive:
- A 60-minute one-to-one video call;
- Focused discussion tailored to your goals and current situation;
- Support with prioritising tasks and making informed decisions;
- Practical guidance you can apply immediately.
The aim is to help you leave the session with clarity and a manageable plan, not an unrealistic to do list.
Timescales and booking
Strategy calls can often be booked at shorter notice than editing services, depending on availability.
If you’re working to a deadline or want to plan ahead, you’re welcome to book multiple sessions in advance, or schedule follow-up calls as needed.
Pricing
$120 / £90 per 60-minute session
Strategy calls are booked as one-off sessions, with the option to schedule follow-up calls as needed.
Next Steps
If you’d like focused, one-to-one support to help you move forward with confidence, then a strategy call might be the right option.
FAQs
Do I need to prepare anything in advance?
That depends on the type of call we are having and what your goals are. I’ll let you know in advance if there is anything that you need to prepare or bring to your call with you.
Can I book ongoing coaching calls for long-term support with my writing?
Yes. Some authors book occasional sessions as needed, while others choose a coaching package focused on a specific goal or phase of their project.
We can discuss what might work best for you.
When and how will a coaching or strategy call take place?
Coaching and strategy calls are delivered online via Microsoft Teams at a time and date that is mutually agreed.
I work with authors all over the world and offer sessions across a range of times to meet different time zone requirements.
I hate being on camera, can I still book a call?
Of course you can. If you’re more comfortable keeping your camera off and having a voice call then that is not a problem at all.
Can I record our call to refer back to?
Yes. I recommend recording your call so that you can make the most of the 60 minutes by focusing on the discussion, rather than trying to take notes as you go.
